No electrical experience required:

There is no need for electrical experience to be successful in our program.  We look for individuals that possess a hard working positive attitude.  We then give those individuals the needed training to become excellent journeyman electricians.

Limited or no costs for training:

We have over $400,000 invested annually into our training programs.  This money is funded through a joint effort by our contractors and our members.  The majority of the training costs are covered by this joint fund.  Apprentices must pay a yearly tuition of $150 and the cost of their school books.  But, if the apprentice works through the entire year without any infractions of the rules, he or she receives their money back.  This means an apprentice can receive all the training and graduate to journeyman status without spending a cent.

Receive excellent wages and benefits:

Apprentices earn while they learn.  They are paid excellent wages through a structured wage schedule that increases throughout their apprenticeship.  They also receive the same benefits as the other Local 743 members, such as: comprehensive health coverage, prescription plan, eye and dental plan and excellent retirement benefits.

No need to search for employment:

Once you are selected into our program, you will be placed to work for one of our many signatory contractors.  You may stay with that contractor or you may get rotated to other contractors throughout your apprenticeship.

Learn from the best trained journeymen electricians in the industry:

Our journeymen inside wiremen are the most competent electricians in the industry.  They have received the best technical and safety training available.  You will work along side of men and women who have spent years perfecting their craft.  They take a lot of pride in the job they do and will pass their knowledge and professionalism off to you.

Earn college credit:

The American Council on Education (ACE) has evaluated the NJATC Inside Wiremen Apprentice program and has awarded it up to 55 credit hours.  Graduates from our program can use these credits at various colleges toward a degree.

Work in a diverse atmosphere:

The work of an Inside Wireman can vary from job to job and day to day.  We install and maintain all of the various types of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.  Basically, if it has anything to do with electricity, we work on it.  One day our journeymen may be installing a fire alarm system in a high rise building and the next day he or she could be installing conduit in an industrial manufacturing plant.

You may have the opportunity to work with many different people in many different atmospheres.  You might find yourself working in such places as schools, malls, offices, hospitals, entertainment venues, manufacturing plants, power plants or solar and wind renewable energy projects.

Job advancement:

After completing your five year apprenticeship there are many opportunities to advance in this field.  You may be asked to become a foreman, superintendent, or project manager.  Or you might want to open your own electrical contracting business.  Other opportunities may include becoming a JATC instructor, JATC Training Director, Union Officer or Local Business Manager.
