Penn State Berks Thermal Collector

New Technology

Recently, a new style of thermal collector was built and installed at Penn State Berks.  The first of its kind in our area, this thermal collector was wired by IBEW Local Union 743 Foreman, Jerome Betz working for Albarell Electric, an IBEW Local Union 743 contractor.  The thermal collector collects heat given by solar radiation in order to produce energy.

Lighting the Way

Susquehanna River : Holtwood Plant

Generating Electricity for Lancaster and York Counties

In 2010, PPL began expansion on its Holtwood Plant which has been generating electricity for Lancaster and York Counties since 1910.  The plant uses the power of the water from the Susquehanna River which is held back by a 55-foot-high dam.  The expansion allows PPL Holtwood to increase its generating capacity by 125-megawatts.


Lancaster General Health Ann B Barshinger Cancer Center Project

IBEW Local 743 Electricians employed by Pagoda Electrical are currently constructing a 70,000 square feet state of the art cancer center adjoined to the current Lancaster General Hospital campus at 2100 Lancaster Pike, Lancaster, PA.  The $44 million project will be completed by the spring of 2013.  When the project construction manager, Benchmark Construction Co, Inc., was asked about Pagoda Electrical's performance on the project, they commented that they were very satisfied with Pagoda's progress.  They also remarked that Pagoda Electrical was one of the most organized and clean electric

Goggle Works

IBEW Local 743 Workers Were Instrumental in Building the Lighting Display for Local University Arts Center, leading to the involvement of many students in their first large-scale project. The Goggle Works lighting display is visible each night until 11 PM.

Goggleworks is a IBEW Local 743 volunteer project. IBEW Local 743 members are active in Reading, PA and the surrounding community. In this instance, our members donated $100k plus in free labor for the installation of LED lighting.
